1st grade Goes to the Farm

1st grade had a great time at the farm!  As we explored the farm, we asked great questions about the animals.  We learned a lot of new facts about animals from a great guide! We had a picnic lunch and ended the day with a hay ride to the pumpkin patch! What a great day!

Pumpkin Math!

Pumpkin math day was a lot of fun! 1st grade measured the circumference of the pumpkin, height, weight, and even counted how many seeds were inside the pumpkins! Putting thier hands inside was thier favorite part! Heres a look at pumpkin math!

Some traditions include carving Jack-O-Laterns into pumpkins!

After all the counting, I made my first graders pumpkin seeds!  All of them but one liked them!

The life cycle of a pumpkin!

Fire Safely Week!

During fire safety week, Mr. Reppen, a fireman, came to talk to K and 1st grade about how to stay safe in a fire.

Mr. Reppen showing us all the protective gear firemen wear.

Thank You Mr. Reppen!

All About Bats!

As part of our Halloween celebration, we studied bats.  After reading Stellaluna, we asked questions about bats and through reading different books and pictures, we learned a lot of information.  Take a look at our display of knowledge!

After reading Stellaluna, we compared bats and birds using a venn diagram.

Remembering 9/11

On 9/11 we celebrated the Twin Towers and read great books that celebrated what they once were.  We also talked about how people, community helpers, all helped the people in New York.  We wrote letters to soldiers thanking them for fighting for us and our freedom!

Apple Day Fun!

Happy Birthday Johnny Appleseed!  To celebrate, 1st grade studied the life cycle of apples, learned about the life of Johnny Appleseed and made delicious apple sauce!  Take a look to see how we celebrated Apple Day!

Graphing our apples by size and color!

Johnny Appleseed art project...we made a book all about Johnny Appleseed and stapled it to his belly!

Thank you Mrs. Kilian for helping us make a yummy treat!

Learning About Birds From 1,000 Miles Away

This fall, 1st grade learned about birds through the Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences in Massachusetts.  Through Skype, our class was able to get a closer look at birds and hear a lot of information about migration.  Recently, the Manomet Center posted an article about thier experiences.  Here is a link!

Today was a special day in 1st grade!  Today was our mass, where we read the reading, brought up the gifts, and sang songs.  I am so proud of all of you!  Thank you 3rd graders and Mrs. Carter for all your help!
